DC-3 Ground School

When:  February 8, 2003

Location:  The ground school will be held at the Central Illinois Regional Airport, Bloomington, IL, in the NEW terminal.

Time:  School starts at 08:00 and will last until 17:00.  Lunch will be at 12:00.

The Prairie Aviation Museum is offering the following training.


*** To Help you prepare for the training we have prepared a study package.

Materials:
All books and materials will be included in our training package. You will receive a Flight manual; a Procedures Manual which describes the procedures used to fly and operate the DC-3; Normal and Emergency Check lists; Oral and Written prep information; documentation for the check ride or completion of the training.

Ground School:
The Ground School will provide you with the systems knowledge that is needed to act as the PIC or SIC of the DC-3.  Students will learn the systems and then be shown how they relate to the daily operation the aircraft. The Ozark DC-3 will be available after class so that the students can go and actually see the systems discussed. 

 DC-3 Flight Training:
To receive the DC-3 Type Rating, the applicant must be at least Multi-engine rated for a VFR Type Rating, and instrument rated to obtain the IFR Type Rating. In order to complete the First Officer training, the applicant is not required to hold a Multi-engine or Instrument rating. Applicants who possess a Private, Commercial or ATP license are qualified to obtain the Type Rating.

The time that is take to complete the DC-3 flight training will vary by individual and course.  Regardless of the student's flying background and experience our professional instructors ensure each person receives the highest quality training.  At the Prairie Aviation Museum we believe in making sure that each student learns to fly the DC-3.

Check Ride:
The check ride requirements are set forth in the FAA publication FAA-S-8081-5C Practical Test Standards.  The Prairie Aviation Museum's Director of Operations is a DPE and will be doing most of the check rides. The examiner fee will be included in the flight training package.

Dates for Training:

Training times will be scheduled on an individual bases.  There will be some scheduled times for ground schools.  Early sign up is recommended, due to class room space.  We also maintain an "interested in attending next class sign up list," and will schedule more classes as the need arises.

Location and Lodging:

The Prairie Aviation Museum and it's Ozark DC-3 are located at the Bloomington, IL Central Illinois Regional Airport (BMI), U.S.A.  Their are a number frequent scheduled  air carriers that serve the airport for convenience in travel.  Along with your training reservation we will help find you lodging for your stay.  If a rental car is needed we can also assist in reserving one for you.  We want to make your stay as worry free as possible.
 

Check Rides and Training abroad:
On an individual basis we can provide instructors at the applicant's location.

Instructor:
Most of our instructors have flown the DC-3 thousands of hours during their careers for the airlines.  Our top two flight instructors have a combined flight time of over 60,000 hours.  With their guidance you will learn all the secrets of the Douglas DC-3.
